Today, we meet Robert McTiffin and Joanne Caunce, who are currently preparing for their summer wedding in Italy.
Robert and Joanne were engaged last year during a live show featuring British psychic Sally Morgan. Joanne is seen wearing her Dauphin engagement ring by 77 Diamonds
First meeting: Robert and Joanne met on a Caribbean Cruise on the first excursion from the ship in December, 2014, going up Dunn’s River Falls in Jamaica. After both experiencing challenges in life or love, neither Robert or Joanne were looking for a romance. “After a 12-year illness (cancer), Jo’s mother passed away and this hit her hard, so much so, she put up barriers and just brought her son up as a single mother not dating for eight years,” shares Robert. “I was separated, subsequently divorced over a period of 10 years myself and certainly wasn’t looking to meet anyone. I was only going on this trip for some winter sun, a fully charged drinks package and my Kindle! The rest as they say is history,” he says.
She’s the one: “I moved in with Jo a year ago and we’re based in a beautiful village called Eccleston, west of Chorley. We just ‘clicked’ from the outset. Jo had not been dating and I was a firm singleton with baggage and was never going to let anyone ‘in’ again. When we met, we sort of danced through each other’s barriers,” Robert explains.
The proposal: As Joanne wanted to attend a psychic night with one of the country’s acclaimed Psychics, Sally Morgan, Robert booked tickets to see her live at Southport in January last year. Unknown to Joanne, Robert asked Joanne’s 13-year-old son, Rio, if he could have his permission to marry his mother and quickly booked a few more seats at the venue for family and friends.
“Armed with the amazing Dauphin ring in Platinum, my heart in my mouth and butterflies, we watched Sally’s show. At the end of the show, Sally Morgan paused and then said, “I have never done this before but can Joanne Caunce come to the stage.” Robert followed Joanne onto the stage in front of a large audience. Sally greeted Joanne while a member of the production team quietly slipped Robert a cordless microphone. Sally took a few steps back and Robert began his speech. “When Joanne realised what was about to happen she burst into tears and I did as much as I could do to keep it together myself.”
Robert selected the Dauphin ring in Platinum by 77 Diamonds for Joanne
The ring: Robert selected 77 Diamonds’s vintage-style Dauphin ring in platinum with a round brilliant diamond. “Jo’s reaction to the ring was amazing! It was on stage in front of 200 people and I had this speech prepared with a 15-foot screen in the background. As soon as Jo realised what was going on, tears were flowing, so I cut down on the speech and hit the deck with my knee.”
The wedding: The couple is getting married in Sorrento, Italy on 20 July this summer with about 30 friends above the Villa Fondi. They will then head to the Foreigners Club for drinks before finally arriving at the Grand President (all overlooking the Bay of Naples with Mount Vesuvius in the background). “Last August we went to meet with the wedding planners and happened to spot a cruise ship in the bay – it just so happened to be the ship we met on in the Caribbean, the Thompson’s Dream!” Now, that is what you call destined to be.
Congratulations Robert and Joanne, we wish you a lifetime of happiness!
