Should I get engaged with a temporary engagement ring?

Before you get engaged with a temporary engagement ring

You might be wondering, What is a temporary engagement ring? It is simply a ring that you can get engaged with NOW, until you find the dream engagement ring. You can still have that amazing proposal experience your partner has been waiting for without the big expense.

But how do you know when you have met the love of your life? Someone who you want to be with through thick and thin. The glorious good times and the really yucky bad times. (that no one tells you about) For me it was the butterflies in my stomach after the first date with my then girlfriend. I am now 22 years married, 4 kids and two massive Newfoundland dogs later. (not by my choice, I got outvoted on that one) The simple answer is, you just know.

What happens when your proposal plans go out of the window?

temporary engagement ringNow speaking as a self-confessed control freak, planning to me is everything. If you are nodding along, then welcome to the club. The truth is, life has a funny way of throwing curve balls at us. Covid-19 is certainly one of those curve balls. You, like many couples, were probably blissfully celebrating the start of 2020, thinking that this year was going to be the year that you got engaged. With everything that is going on, you might now be wondering if you have to re-asses your options.

While some of our clients may have lost their jobs due to COVID -19, there are still some that want to take that next step. Understandably a number of clients have been considering whether they should postpone or cancel their planned proposal. Maybe spending $8000 on an engagement ring right now might not be the best thing for you to do.

With so many restrictions in place it is perfectly understandable to think the only alternative is to do nothing and stay at home. Which is certainly the advice coming from the authorities. While that is true in some cases, it doesn’t mean that you can’t get creative with a surprise proposal at home with a temporary engagement ring. A ring that you can go back later and change for the perfect engagement ring. Something that you both can have an input into and enjoy the process.

On the bright side, there have been a number of proposals still going ahead. Albeit much more low key than were originally planned. What is heart warming is talking to a proposer and hearing  how despite everything, they are still looking to make their partners year and pop the question.

The Ultimate COVID-19 proposal idea with a temporary engagement ring.

For many of the proposers  I talk to, it can be quite an involved process choosing their partners dream engagement ring. Let alone how and when they are going to propose. With classic proposal locations such as restaurants, or travelling interstate or overseas now off the table, here is a really great alternative.

With every temporary engagement ring purchase we are offering a romantic room turn down service. Imagine turning up with your beloved after a nice walk and coming home to this…

Romance Package 150 x Led Candles

1 x Bag of Red Rose Petals

1 x Bouquet of Red Roses

Fresh Strawberries

Chocolate Dip or Favourite Dessert

Your favourite photo memories displayed of you and your partner

Romantic Music Playing

Champagne

Then all you need to do is get down on one knee open the ring box with your stunning temporary engagement ring and ask your partner the words they have been waiting for.  “Will you marry me?”. Your proposal will be special, no matter where it is, or whether it is with a temporary engagement ring. Most partners who I speak to after having been proposed to, are glowing. They are so excited to share about how their partner proposed. They remember what they said and generally how excited they are to be on their way to being married.

Which might come as a much welcome distraction if you are finding yourself stuck at home with a lot more time on your hands. Planning a wedding can take a good 12 months, which means you are all set for a 2021 wedding.

Which temporary engagement ring will you choose?

If you have decided that you really want to get engaged to your partner and would love some help. You can book a FREE proposal planning session with me. I guarantee there are some really easy and simple ways to create a romantic proposal that will really blow your partner away. Or have a look at some of our amazing temporary engagement rings here.

Youth America’s Cup: Chris Rashley To Coach RHKYC Team Agiplast

Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club has appointed Chris Rashley as Head Coach of RHKYC Team Agiplast, the club’s entry into the Youth America’s Cup, which will be sailed on the new AC9F 9m monohull foiling boats.

The Youth America’s Cup is a joint initiative between the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron (RNZYS), the China Sports Industry Group (CSIG) and Emirates Team New Zealand (ETNZ).

The multi-leg event will begin with a fleet racing seeding event in China in November and then a match racing event in Auckland from February 18-23, 2021, with the finals held between March 8-12 outside the RNZYS near Auckland’s iconic Harbour Bridge.

RHKYC Team Agiplast was among 15 clubs from 12 countries to enter by the initial deadline of February 29. Crews must be between 18-24 years old and consist of four sailors – two female, two male – with a total weight between 280-311kg.

Rashley, an experienced international foiling coach from the UK, will spearhead the RHKYC entry, which received 12 applications from young sailors by late March.

“I am very much looking forward to working alongside the dedicated team at RHKYC. They have put together a highly professional campaign plan and possess a wealth of experience to draw from when taking on a project of this scale,” Rashley said.

Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club has received 12 applications for RHKYC Team Agiplast

“We’ve received 12 applications from some very promising candidates who are excited about the opportunity of representing the Club at the Youth America’s Cup. I look forward to sharing my foiling experience and knowledge with the lucky few who make the sailing team and, hopefully, they will go on to shape and push the limits of foiling sailing in the future.”

Rashley’s work ethos is “to train smart with the time you have, work harder than anyone else, make daily notes and keep video to track your progress”, and says any sailor selected for RHKYC Team Agiplast will need the same mindset and mental toughness.

Having started sailing at nine, Rashley left school at 16 to pursue a career in sailing and was part of the British Sailing Team’s development programme in 2005 as Tornado helm. After switching to 49ers, he was appointed Head 49er Coach of the Irish Olympic team in 2010.

He returned to the British Sailing Team in 2013 as Podium 49er FX coach during the Rio Olympics cycle. In 2016, he started sailing the Nacra 17 and re-joined the British Sailing Team in 2017.

In addition to coaching, he was an integral part of the Exocet Moth development project, working with Kevin Ellway and Simon Maguire, and won four European Championships and twice finished second at the Moth Worlds, with another three top-10 finishes. Within the Moth class, he also coached Paul Goodison, Brad Funk, Victor Diaz de Leon, Dylan Fletcher and Rome Kirby, who all went on to win or medal at major championships.

Rashley is also a strong proponent of ocean conservation. “The environment, especially ocean water quality, is something I think about every day. I spend most of my time in, on or around the water, so tackling plastic pollution is a top priority.

“Working with a team committed to improving the environment and tackling this issue will make working with the Club and Agiplast a pleasure, not a chore.”

Lucy Sutro, the Club’s Rear Commodore (Sailing), said: “RHKYC is very lucky to have a coach of Chris’ pedigree to join RHKYC Team Agiplast as the Head Coach.

“He brings with him a wealth of experience at international competitions and I know the team will learn a lot from working with him. We are all looking forward to this campaign and to building a legacy that future youth sailors in Hong Kong can benefit from.”

Jim Olson’s Tranquil Meadow House along Woodside, California

As serene as its name suggests, the Meadow House along Woodside, California was conceptualized by Jim Olson, to be a single continuous, flowing expression, of architecture, interior design, art, and landscape.

Jim Olson’s Tranquil Meadow House along Woodside, California

With unmistakably picturesque views of the neighboring Santa Cruz Mountains, which radiate from every direction across the residence’s reflecting pools, vistas, and rustic gardens. Unified by a central living area, the Meadow House features three auxiliary buildings, seamlessly connected by its subdued quality of design, and extensive outdoor amenities.

Spanning across 3.5 acres of land, the Meadow House is organized into two interconnected elements, depicting a contrasting attitude towards the landscape, through a series of cultivated vineyard, and old-growth olive tree areas, alongside entertainment facilities, an infinity pool, gentle slopes, bedrooms, and an office.

With an earthy backdrop, the house is stocked with custom furnishing, unique light design, contemporary art collections curated by the architect, and several high-performance energy-effective systems.

Maximilian Schneider Designs a 21st Century Batmobile Dubbed The Koenigsegg Konigsei Concept

Batman called the Japanese multinational automotive manufacturer, Mitsubishi Motors, saying he’s missing his car and wants it back. Designed by the revered Maximilian Schneider, the Koenigsegg Konigsei concept represents an ideal combination of exotic delineation and high performance.

Maximilian Schneider Designs a 21st Century Batmobile Dubbed The Koenigsegg Konigsei Concept

Drawing inspiration by both the shape and texture of an egg, the Koenigsegg showcases a wrap-around windshield, wide bodywork and subtle double-bubble cockpit. With a body and interior crafted using real recycled eggshells, the Koenigsegg Konigsei concept is fueled by a 6.4-liter hydrogen V8, which harnesses over 1,618 horsepower, accelerating 0 to 60 in under 3.5 seconds, at drag-limited top speeds of 274 mph.

Not yet built to order, the potential existence and ownership of this car and the available 21st century technological advancements, make Koenigsegg Konigsei concept anything but a far-fetched ambition.

The star attraction is the 15m helipad, as the deck can slide backwards on hydraulic jacks to receive a helicopter and retract after use. The vast master suite on the upper deck has direct access to the 9m pool forward of the helipad, while there are six double guest cabins on the lower deck and accommodation for 34 crew.

The main deck includes a dining room for 20 and a cinema, while the observation deck has an outdoor bar, Jacuzzi and sunbathing area. A double-storey beach club features a bar and relaxation area, massage room, sauna and steam room, and a Jacuzzi with lounge beds, and leads to an enormous garage.

Frontier is predicted to reach 19-20 knots with twin diesel engines, but Sorgiovanni says the yacht features a range of innovations designed to reduce her footprint. “Making environmentally and socially responsible products the new normal for all consumers should be a top priority for all companies today.”

Antonini Family Enters Yacht Building Industry with La Spezia Facility

Gruppo Antonini has created Antonini Navi, which will offer custom builds up to 70m, megayacht construction for third parties, refit and its own Crossover range of 30-50m displacement and semi-displacement yachts designed by Creative Director Fulvio de Simoni, starting with a 130ft (40m) model.

Massimo Antonini (CFO), Lorenzo Antonini (COO), Simone Antonini (COO) and Aldo Manna (Sales Director)

Antonini brothers Massimo (CFO), Lorenzo (COO) and Simone (COO), partners in Antonini Navi with friend Aldo Manna (Sales Director)

Brothers Simone, Lorenzo and Massimo Antonini are CEO, COO and CFO respectively of Antonini Navi and run Gruppo Antonini, which was founded by their grandfather Walter and has been operating in the oil and gas sector since the second half of the 1940s. The group will invest €10 million (about US$10.8 million) to convert its Marina di Pertusola shipyard in Muggiano on the Gulf of La Spezia into a specialist yacht-building facility.

Gruppo Antonini averages annual sales of over €50 million and has about 200 employees and 50 collaborators. Some will be assigned to the Antonini Navi project at the Muggiano shipyard, one of the group’s three production sites along with the Olmec Unit and the Oma Unit.

Aldo Manna, a friend of the Antonini brothers since childhood, conceived of the new company and is its Sales Director and partner.

“This is a great project with solid foundations,” Manna says. “The Antonini family still runs the group as a ‘family business’, in which personal relationships are the true cornerstone of the business model. Now, more than ever, clients feel the need to deal directly with the owners of a shipyard and not just with investment-fund managers.”

CEO Simone Antonini said: “In the 1980s, our grandfather Walter recognised the enormous potential of the Pertusola site as a hub for yachting and related services, which is why we were so enthusiastic about Aldo’s proposal to set up Antonini Navi together.

“Aldo fully embodies the values of our business: family, hard work and determination. Aldo is also a formidable professional in superyacht construction and marketing, and the right man to complete our team, with his constant focus on achieving new objectives.

Sunreef Yachts Creates Eco Range of Luxury Sail and Power Catamarans

Sunreef Yachts is developing a new range of Eco catamarans, both power and sail, as the Polish builder promotes “responsible boating” and a solar-powered, fuel-free way of cruising and living at sea. The new range has a dedicated website: www.sunreef-yachts-eco.com

The 80 Sunreef Eco powercat is due to launch in the second half of 2020

The 80 Sunreef Eco powercat is due to launch in the second half of 2020

The first 80 Sunreef Eco powercat is scheduled to launch in the second half of the year and will be followed by the 70 Sunreef Eco and two sailing catamarans, the Sunreef 70 Eco and Sunreef 80 Eco. Renderings of the 80 Sunreef Eco show the model with two windmills, as the Gdansk shipyard is also exploring the benefits of wind power.

Over the past year, Sunreef has launched electric/hybrid versions of its 50 and 60 sailing catamarans, the latter named E and displayed at last year’s Cannes Yachting Festival.

However, the new range features patent-pending technology developed by Sunreef including 1mm-thick solar panels fitted on the hull and flybridge, as well as on the foredeck of powercats and even on the mast of sailing cats. The Eco range also features electric propulsion, custom-built battery banks, and naturally-sourced and recyclable materials.

The Sunreef 70 Eco shows solar panels fitted on the hull, flybridge and even mast

The Sunreef 70 Eco shows solar panels fitted on the hull, flybridge and even mast

Francis Lapp, founder and President of Sunreef Yachts, said: “It is vital that the industry follows the growing demand for more sustainable crafts. We are talking about the future of yachting and I know Sunreef Yachts can make a change.

“Sunreef Yachts Eco catamarans are a concept going far beyond electric propulsion systems. Everything on board, from batteries to fabrics and structural materials to water management, reflects a new yachting philosophy.”

The shipyard is designing and manufacturing what it calls “the industry’s lightest solar power systems”, featuring solar panels less than 1mm thick and industry-leading solar cells (peak performance 24 per cent).

The 70 Sunreef Eco powercat is also among future models

The 70 Sunreef Eco powercat is also among future models

Sunreef’s R&D department has conceived a new method of integrating the panels within composite structures so they can be mounted on any surface of the yacht, vastly increasing the amount of solar power.

The shipyard states that 200sqm of solar panels on the upcoming 80 Sunreef Eco weigh 360kg and generate 40kWh peak. In comparison, a 20kW generator weighting 400kg generates two times less power.

For redundant, safe energy storage, all Eco catamarans are equipped with at least two ultra-light battery banks (5kg per kWh), which have a life of 5,000 cycles and range from 90kWh to 1MWh depending on the yacht model. The stored energy powers the electric propulsion and all ‘household’ appliances including air-conditioning, without using the generator.

The company is also incorporating naturally-sourced materials like basalt and linen elements, sustainable alternatives to e-glass that offer excellent mechanical properties, while interiors will use natural, reclaimed or recycled fabrics and materials.

The companies represent a wide range of products and services such as gangways, lighting, lift systems, garage doors, doors, hatches, portholes, windscreen wipers, monitoring and security systems, and parts such as cleats and fairleads.

The eight brands equip many yachts and superyachts made in Europe especially by Italian builders including Azimut, Benetti, Cranchi, Custom Line, Ferretti Yachts, Pershing, Riva and Sanlorenzo, all well established in Asia.

Yachtalia and ASD, a yacht and superyacht maintenance and management firm, have established a partnership to provide technical support and tailor-made services, from full project management to urgent assistance requests.

Paolo Tazzini, CEO at Yachtalia, said: “We want those in yachting to think of Singapore as a wonderful location where top-quality products and services are available anytime, with the same technical skills and opportunities found in the Mediterranean.”

Yachtalia teams can travel anywhere in the world at any time to operate on all onboard systems and Jean Jaques Lavigne, CEO of ASD, says it’s an example of the world-class services that will be extended to clients in the region.

“The Asian yacht market, especially for Italian builders, has grown significantly over the last 10 years,” Lavigne said. “Like in any market, there comes a point when after-sales and servicing need to be more structured in order to offer greater benefits to yacht owners, such as reduced downtime and optimised operating costs.”

Together with Yachtalia, ASD will provide engineering, organisational and logistics support for new builds and refit projects, as well as complete professional surveys, for customers across the region including in Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Hong Kong.

Alex Plent, COO of ASD and a former superyacht Captain, added: “In Asia, at large, yachts are still affected by several inefficacies in the supply-chain and at the servicing technical level.

“We simply followed where the market demand was leading us – more simplicity – and that naturally led us to a partnership with Yachtalia, which was looking for the right partner to better extend its services in Asia.”

Sanlorenzo Asia Office To Open Beside Simpson Marine in Singapore

Sanlorenzo Asia has completed the construction of its flagship office, which overlooks ONE˚15 Marina, Sentosa Cove in Singapore and is scheduled to begin operations in May. The office was designed by Piero Lissoni of Lissoni Associati and is connected to the new Singapore office of Simpson Marine, Sanlorenzo’s partner in Asia.

The first Sanlorenzo Asia office is in Sentosa Cove, Singapore

Sanlorenzo Art Director Piero Lissoni designed the office, located in Sentosa Cove

Sanlorenzo Asia – a collaboration between the shipyard and Simpson Marine – has represented the Italian builder in the region since 2015.

Nick Stratton, Sanlorenzo Asia Sales Manager, said: “We have delivered a number of Sanlorenzo yachts throughout Southeast Asia including new models like the SX88, SL102 Asymmetric and the imposing SD126, while a spectacular 44Alloy from our superyacht division is expected to arrive early next year, adding to an impressive and growing fleet.

“The opening of the Singapore flagship office further demonstrates our commitment to the region and reflects the outstanding success we have had with the brand in recent years. A natural hub for our Southeast Asian activities, this beautiful lounge will be a space for owners to enjoy and for future owners to explore and appreciate the brand.”

Framed on two sides by metal walls replicating freight containers, a reference to the world of nautical construction, the office design continues the industrial theme of Sanlorenzo displays at major international yacht shows.

Also inspired by the formal settings created for the brand’s participation in cultural events like Art Basel, Lissoni has created a space of minimalist elegance, furnished with contemporary design pieces.

Lissoni, Sanlorenzo Art Director, said: “For us, this is a very important project, a window in a part of the world that has some of the most beautiful, special seas on the planet. At the same time, it is a positive development in this moment of worldwide crisis. Singapore will be one of the first steps in the new process of growth of Sanlorenzo.”

Thailand, Andaman Islands Updates by Asia Pacific Superyachts

PHUKET, THAILAND

Phuket has extended all lockdown orders by four days until April 30 while reiterating that the health regulations to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 also apply to boats. All boats except commercial fishing boats, traditional fishing boats, rescue boats, nursing vessels and government vessels are prohibited from the harbour and coast within Phuket.

For boats allowed to put to sea, the orders note: “When leaving the port or coast at any place, notification must be made to enter the port or coast at the place of departure and the operators and the owners of the boats are to be strict in [enforcing] the epidemic prevention measures. All the boat officials must wear face masks, maintain a space of not less than 1.5m [from other people], and strictly follow the procedures set by the Ministry of Public Health and Communicable Disease Committees.”

The special reminder for boat Captains and crews, repeating the health regulations for everyone initially laid down weeks ago, came as Vice Admiral Cherngchai Chomcherngpat of the Royal Thai Navy Third Area Command announced on April 17 that Phuket’s fishing fleet was free from any Covid-19 infection as he led inspections of fishing crews as part of efforts to help prevent the spread of the virus.

Many groups across the island, including from the yachting community, are helping people in need of food and other support. Tanyuta ‘Jojo’ Singhmanee from Asia Pacific Superyachts (APS) Phuket and her team bought watermelons from Phuket farmers, who can’t sell their products because of the lockdown.

The team then prepared packaged offerings and distributed watermelon packs to people in need. The following day all the team members got together and prepared hundreds of chicken and port dinners to distribute to those in need, noting the team will continue to help during lockdown.

On April 18, the Phuket Communicable Disease Committee announced no new confirmed cases of people infected with the Covid-19 virus, so the total number of people in Phuket infected by the disease remained at 192.

PATTAYA, THAILAND

April 19: The Ocean Marina Yacht Club is offering free hard standing during this crisis, so this is a good time for repairs or antifouling. Contact the marina all the office to book your boat in for a haul out. For those boats that are allowed to put to sea, the orders are the same as stated in the Phuket chapter above.

The marina’s office hours at the weekend have changed from 7am-6pm to 8am-5pm and all staff, members and visitors must wear a mask while in the marina. Security guards are checking temperatures and hand sanitisers are at the marina entrances and in the golf carts.

The marina hotel has temporarily suspended operations since April 1 until further notice, in line with Thailand Government guidelines.

ANDAMAN ISLANDS, INDIA

Last Thursday, Andaman and Nicobar Islands claimed ‘defeat’ of Covid-19 after Chief Secretary Chetan Sanghi announced that all 11 cases in the archipelago had recovered from the disease. It became the first Union Territory in India to record the recovery of all its Covid-19 patients.

An article published on April 16 in The Logical Indian added: “However, he (Chetan Sanghi) said precautions will be taken as per the guidelines issued by the government.”

After R. Rathnam, owner-agent of Asia Pacific Superyachts Andaman Islands, shared the announcement on social media, several Captains enquired when yachts could return.

“The monsoon is approaching soon. We expect we will be ready in all aspects to welcome yachts in the next season,” Rathnam responded, confirming this would be from December, depending on the Covid-19 situation.

On April 15, 10 people from the islands tested positive for Covid-19 after they attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in New Delhi last month. The patients had come from Delhi to Port Blair via Kolkata on March 24 on different flights. After they landed at the Port Blair airport, they were admitted to hospital as they exhibited coronavirus symptoms.

The Andamans was India’s first union territory to employ ‘pool testing’ of samples of suspected Covid-19 patients, in order to reduce the number of test kits used due to the acute shortage across the country.

The process includes testing multiple swab samples in a single test. If the combined sample tests positive for the virus, the samples are then tested individually to find out who has the infection. This process reduces the number of test kits used compared to the testing of individual samples.
