Gordon Murray Rights His Wrongs With The Most Driver-Centric T.50 Supercar Ever

From the same engineer who gave us the the Monocage II based, bi-turbo V8-powered ‘P14’, a Ferrari 488 GTB, Lamborghini Huracan Performante, with low-to-middling cruise missiles, Gordon Murray is back with an all-new luxurious hypercar. Not build for speed, this £2.36 million lightweight beauty, dubbed the T.50, mimics the outline of its predecessor, showcasing an attempt to improve on the acclaimed McLaren F1 “in every conceivable way”.

Gordon Murray Rights His Wrongs With The Most Driver-Centric T.50 Supercar Ever

Constructed based on a simple philosophy, “start light and everything else gets better”, the T.50 represents Gordon Murray’s purest, lightest, and most driver-centric supercar ever, measuring an estimated 1.85 metres wide by 4.35 metres long, and encompassing a minimum 30 litres of storage in its cabin and sizeable side lockers. Powered by a 100% bespoke 3.9-litre, 663PS V12 engine that revs to a record-breaking 12,100rpm, and features the most advanced and effective aerodynamics ever seen on a road car – aided by a 400mm rear-mounted fan, the T.50 is 50th in a prestigious line of race and road cars, Murray has penned over his illustrious 50-year career.

Characterised by its purity and balance, the T.50 eliminates the wings, skirts and vents that adorn most modern-day supercars. Featuring unparalleled aerodynamic technological advancements, this hypercar is deliberately simple, with beautiful lines and a timeless appearance – interrupted only by a pair of dihedral doors.

Utilizing high-grade part-bonded carbon fibre and an aluminium honeycomb core in the chassis and body, the T.50 promises exceptional structural rigidity, alongside enhanced occupant safety, handling, agility and comfort – thus negating the need for additional bracing or reinforcement in the event of an accident.

Attached using an inclined axis shear mounting system (IASA), the car’s Cosworth GMA V12 engine and manual Xtrac gearbox are semi-structural, resting along anti-vibration mounts to prevent unwanted noise and vibration from entering the cabin, whilst ensuring the effective management of braking, acceleration and cornering forces.

Through the application of two automatic and four driver-selected aero modes, the T.50 is capable of increasing downforce by 50%; reducing drag by 12.5%; adding around 50PS to the car’s output in combination with a ram-air induction; and cutting braking distance by 10m from 150mph.

With an underbody airflow system, facilitated by the interactions of an automated fan and a pair of active spoilers at its rear, air flows over the top of the car undisturbed by unsightly vents, ducts, or flaps, whilst assisting to reduce drag. Driven by a lightweight 48-volt motor, spinning at up to 7,000rpm, the incorporation of a fan with vertical inlet ducts fitted with filters, thus ensures that no road debris enter the car.

Weighing a total of 986kg, Professor Gordon Murray and his team have since announced that the ground-breaking T.50 hypercar will enter commercial production in January 2022, as the automotive company begins taking orders online.

Thirteen and Company Presents Part II Of The Revered Amber Series

With a goal to design a motorcycle that was approachable to any rider, Thirteen and Company’s custom built 1977 Honda CB550, displayed a real balance of maturity, elegance, and attitude. Following the success of the first model, dubbed ‘Amber’, in 2016, the bike’s second instalment launches four years later. Born out of an LA-based workshop run by Kyle Vara, the Amber II represents its creator’s continuous desire to better himself as a craftsman.

Thirteen and Company Presents Part II Of The Revered Amber Series

Presenting a more precise and polished finish, the Amber II began with a restoration that went all the way down to the nuts and bolts, featuring a clean cafĂ© build, put together with a stock displacement piston kit, new camshaft, and a set of bearings, seals and gaskets – this new and improved bike showcases a stainless steel replacement exhaust, alongside a re-fabricated rear chassis, frame and swing arm.

Handmade with reclaimed Italian leather, the seat was designed to match its imported Italian grips, and brushed steel tank, which were both professionally clear coated to resemble a dense, deep, glass-like finish. Adapting the original fuel tank whilst sculpturally reshaping and extending it with a fabricated tail bump, the Amber II boasts a smooth, curvaceous line from front to back, only interrupted by its sunken seat.

Masterfully incorporating a single 7-inch headlight, refurbished controls and switches, motogadget electronics, a line of LED taillights, and overhauled wheels with chromed DID rims and spokes, the Amber series successfully broadens Thirteen and Company’s product range, through breaking the mould and diversifying them from the usual edgy, race-inspired build.

Sparks Architects Construct A Defiant Object In A Windswept Landscape

The Spinnaker House

A quest for equilibrium shapes and fuels the practice of Sparks Architects, their craft is often characterised by an unparalleled balance between work and personal life, apparent by the collective team’s move from a five to a four-day work week. Known best for their construction of the Ridge House in 2015 which featured rammed-earth walls and spotted gum timbers, the design firm continues to conceptualise enviable residencies.

Sparks Architects Construct A Defiant Object In A Windswept Landscape

The Spinnaker House

Completed in 2018, the Spinnaker House marks the firm’s most recent project, which reconciles another monumental setting on a precarious site. Perched over the edge of an escarpment on Hervey Bay, Queensland, the Spinnaker House seeks to balance the visual opportunities of the landscape, while providing sanctuary from the windy coastal environment.

The Spinnaker House

Defined by the site’s topography, orientation, exposure to the elements and its surrounding landscape, the building responds through systems of blocking and filtering, incorporating walls of sliding glass, screens, and large scale automated clerestories, to create a spatial dynamic, reminiscent of a full sail, or a Spinnaker. Standing parallel to the sloped ground, the continuity of its roof and wall, stabilize its position, as the house itself represents a defiant object in a windswept landscape.
