Yachtalia Partners with Asia Superyacht Development Across Region

Yachtalia has partnered with Singapore-based Asia Superyacht Development (ASD) to serve the region’s growing yacht and superyacht market, offering maintenance, repair, refit and survey.

The Italian company distributes, installs and services a range of high-tech marine products from the likes of Besenzoni, Cantalupi Lighting, Gallinea, GOST, H&B Technics, Naviop, Nemo and Opacmare.

The companies represent a wide range of products and services such as gangways, lighting, lift systems, garage doors, doors, hatches, portholes, windscreen wipers, monitoring and security systems, and parts such as cleats and fairleads.

The eight brands equip many yachts and superyachts made in Europe especially by Italian builders including Azimut, Benetti, Cranchi, Custom Line, Ferretti Yachts, Pershing, Riva and Sanlorenzo, all well established in Asia.

Yachtalia and ASD, a yacht and superyacht maintenance and management firm, have established a partnership to provide technical support and tailor-made services, from full project management to urgent assistance requests.

Yachtalia teams can travel anywhere in the world at any time to operate on all onboard systems and Jean Jaques Lavigne, CEO of ASD, says it’s an example of the world-class services that will be extended to clients in the region.

Together with Yachtalia, ASD will provide engineering, organisational and logistics support for new builds and refit projects, as well as complete professional surveys, for customers across the region including in Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Hong Kong.

Sanlorenzo Asia Office To Open Beside Simpson Marine in Singapore

Sanlorenzo Asia has completed the construction of its flagship office, which overlooks ONE˚15 Marina, Sentosa Cove in Singapore and is scheduled to begin operations in May. The office was designed by Piero Lissoni of Lissoni Associati and is connected to the new Singapore office of Simpson Marine, Sanlorenzo’s partner in Asia.

Sanlorenzo Asia – a collaboration between the shipyard and Simpson Marine – has represented the Italian builder in the region since 2015.

Nick Stratton, Sanlorenzo Asia Sales Manager, said: “We have delivered a number of Sanlorenzo yachts throughout Southeast Asia including new models like the SX88, SL102 Asymmetric and the imposing SD126, while a spectacular 44Alloy from our superyacht division is expected to arrive early next year, adding to an impressive and growing fleet.

Framed on two sides by metal walls replicating freight containers, a reference to the world of nautical construction, the office design continues the industrial theme of Sanlorenzo displays at major international yacht shows.

Also inspired by the formal settings created for the brand’s participation in cultural events like Art Basel, Lissoni has created a space of minimalist elegance, furnished with contemporary design pieces.

Thailand, Andaman Islands Updates by Asia Pacific Superyachts

PHUKET, THAILAND

Phuket has extended all lockdown orders by four days until April 30 while reiterating that the health regulations to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 also apply to boats. All boats except commercial fishing boats, traditional fishing boats, rescue boats, nursing vessels and government vessels are prohibited from the harbour and coast within Phuket.

For boats allowed to put to sea, the orders note: “When leaving the port or coast at any place, notification must be made to enter the port or coast at the place of departure and the operators and the owners of the boats are to be strict in [enforcing] the epidemic prevention measures. All the boat officials must wear face masks, maintain a space of not less than 1.5m [from other people], and strictly follow the procedures set by the Ministry of Public Health and Communicable Disease Committees.”

The special reminder for boat Captains and crews, repeating the health regulations for everyone initially laid down weeks ago, came as Vice Admiral Cherngchai Chomcherngpat of the Royal Thai Navy Third Area Command announced on April 17 that Phuket’s fishing fleet was free from any Covid-19 infection as he led inspections of fishing crews as part of efforts to help prevent the spread of the virus.

Many groups across the island, including from the yachting community, are helping people in need of food and other support. Tanyuta ‘Jojo’ Singhmanee from Asia Pacific Superyachts (APS) Phuket and her team bought watermelons from Phuket farmers, who can’t sell their products because of the lockdown.

The team then prepared packaged offerings and distributed watermelon packs to people in need. The following day all the team members got together and prepared hundreds of chicken and port dinners to distribute to those in need, noting the team will continue to help during lockdown.

On April 18, the Phuket Communicable Disease Committee announced no new confirmed cases of people infected with the Covid-19 virus, so the total number of people in Phuket infected by the disease remained at 192.

PATTAYA, THAILAND

April 19: The Ocean Marina Yacht Club is offering free hard standing during this crisis, so this is a good time for repairs or antifouling. Contact the marina all the office to book your boat in for a haul out. For those boats that are allowed to put to sea, the orders are the same as stated in the Phuket chapter above.

The marina’s office hours at the weekend have changed from 7am-6pm to 8am-5pm and all staff, members and visitors must wear a mask while in the marina. Security guards are checking temperatures and hand sanitisers are at the marina entrances and in the golf carts.

The marina hotel has temporarily suspended operations since April 1 until further notice, in line with Thailand Government guidelines.

ANDAMAN ISLANDS, INDIA

Last Thursday, Andaman and Nicobar Islands claimed ‘defeat’ of Covid-19 after Chief Secretary Chetan Sanghi announced that all 11 cases in the archipelago had recovered from the disease. It became the first Union Territory in India to record the recovery of all its Covid-19 patients.

An article published on April 16 in The Logical Indian added: “However, he (Chetan Sanghi) said precautions will be taken as per the guidelines issued by the government.”

After R. Rathnam, owner-agent of Asia Pacific Superyachts Andaman Islands, shared the announcement on social media, several Captains enquired when yachts could return.

“The monsoon is approaching soon. We expect we will be ready in all aspects to welcome yachts in the next season,” Rathnam responded, confirming this would be from December, depending on the Covid-19 situation.

On April 15, 10 people from the islands tested positive for Covid-19 after they attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in New Delhi last month. The patients had come from Delhi to Port Blair via Kolkata on March 24 on different flights. After they landed at the Port Blair airport, they were admitted to hospital as they exhibited coronavirus symptoms.

The Andamans was India’s first union territory to employ ‘pool testing’ of samples of suspected Covid-19 patients, in order to reduce the number of test kits used due to the acute shortage across the country.

The process includes testing multiple swab samples in a single test. If the combined sample tests positive for the virus, the samples are then tested individually to find out who has the infection. This process reduces the number of test kits used compared to the testing of individual samples.

When LUXUO last covered automobiles beyond the Eurocentric models we adore, we looked at East-Asian economies beginning their recovery from the coronavirus pandemic, and uncovered a few luxury automotive gems eager to fill the vacuum currently left by the likes of BMW and Mercedes Benz. Over in Japan, Mazda just unveiled how its new Vision Concept Coupe is going to give European carmakers a run for their money.

When we last reviewed the the all-new Mazda 3 M-Hybrid, I discovered that despite its Japanese parentage, it rivalled and exceeded its continental car counterparts, making it an unlikely “hero offering” for the automotive industry in 2019.

Mazda just unveiled How its Vision Concept Coupe is Going to Beat European Carmakers

The sensuous ‘reverse-teardrop’ silhouette of the all-new Mazda 3 Astina grips you in the throes of “lust at first sight” before you even notice the almost seamless, unbroken windowline, contributing to the sportive, “crouched panther” stance totally unexpected from a family hatchback: the exterior demeanour of the next generation Mazda 3 are a mere hint to the level of detail and improvement permeating every aspect of this vehicle.

Like the brand’s current flagship 1.5L Mazda 3 Hatchback, the new Mazda Vision Coup is a body of art, conveying singular motion and subtle undulations which allow plays of ambient light and reflections to play up its gorgeous silhouette.

Mazda’s Winning Formula: Skyactiv-X Straight Six hybrid engine and refined Kodo design language

Jalopnik did a little digging in the Japanese carmaker’s March 2019 fiscal report and found a little line item on page 25 listing two potential Mazda Vision Coupe powerplants: a Skyactiv-X straight-six, as well as a Skyactiv-D straight-six diesel. The engine development is particularly remarkable because continental brands like  Mercedes and Jaguar had been developing their own similar straight-six mild hybrid setup, while Toyota borrowed BMW Z4’s architecture and engine for the new Supra, making Mazda the clear leader in this respect. Awkward given that Toyota is clearly the larger auto-maker.

The company’s new 3.0-litre inline-six engine will not only feature mild-hybrid tech similar to what’s already present in the top-of-the-line 2019 Astina, but also make use of the brand’s compression ignition system, with a potential for 345-horsepower (257-kilowatt) output from this powertrain: no small potatoes given that its 4 door coupe of the sort typical in a family drive.

On the aesthetic front, it’s clear from the success of last year’s top range 1.5L Mazda Astina that they’re going to lean into that aggressive cabin-rearward and go all the way with the upcoming Mazda Vision coupe as well.
