The Norwegian “Grand Old Lady” of southwestern coastal city Bergen, was recently restored to her former glory. With a legacy dating as far back as 1928, the Grand Hotel Terminus is De Bergenske Group’s fourth local hotel chain revered for its subtle and classical interior design.

Spanning over a period of 13 years, De Bergenske Group had focused its refurbishment efforts on the interior, leaving the exterior predominantly untouched as an ode to the hotel’s historical significance.

With an all-new reception, internal windows guide visitors toward the bar named after famous Norwegian explorer, Amundsen, who spent his last evening in the Grand Hotel Terminus before vanishing on an arctic rescue mission in 1982. The whiskey-themed bar offers a curated array of colorful concoctions, and is accentuated by wood wall paneling and historical imagery.

Housed on the opposing end of the lobby, is the dignified Grand Hotel Terminus’ breakfast room. Incorporating black-and-white checkered flooring with wide angled mirrors, plus opaline and red chandeliers, the room showcases an effortless blend of history, tradition, luxury and modernity, from a riveting contemporary perspective.

Aligning the hotel’s façade with chalky-green walls, guests are ushered into rooms of natural tones, with furniture carefully selected to represent a multitude of design eras – including cabinetmaker, Christopher Knag’s original chairs from 1928, an eclectic assemblage of modernist paintings and monochrome bathrooms for an added touch of graphic contrast.

Hosting an exhibition from 3^rd to 9^th February 2020 on the architecture and design of Grand Hotel Terminus, amongst other hotels by Claesson Koivisto Rune architects between 2017 and 2019 – the Norwegian Embassy will feature a diverse selection of custom designed furniture and artifacts, by an array of international designers, as part of the nation’s annual Stockholm Design Week.

Serving an indulgent variety of classical Eastern European and French cuisine, the restaurant is revered for its osetra caviar and pays tribute to the all-day cafes of Vienna, St Petersburg and Budapest, under the expert culinary direction of esteemed chef Robert Aikens.

Greeted by artist Dean Barger’s ethereal murals of a forest landscape, the restaurant features a series of contrasting elements through utilizing both earthy and cyan tones, reminiscent of Dutch painter, theoretician and arguably one of the greatest artists of the 20^th century, Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan’s iconic work.

Alluding to the historically strained relationship between the art of painting and photography, the restaurant’s design aims to convey the idea of an intertwined evolution across different art forms – focusing on the early days of photography and how the new medium of expression impacted traditional art.

With seven tiers of apothecary bottle shelves and a bar made of honed black Saint Laurent marble, backed by a stained glass window, the Veronika features pale oak flooring, dark mohair seating, polished Rosa Perlino marble tabletops, custom egg-shaped lights, and blackened brass doorways – creating an atmosphere of eclectic modernism and romance.

Vietyacht Displays Jeanneau Motor Boats in Spectacular New Showroom

Vietyacht launched its new showroom in a spectacular opening ceremony in Ha Long City, well known as the gateway to world-famous Halong Bay. Founded by Duc Thuan Nguyen, the dealership has described the facility as the ‘first yacht showroom in Vietnam’.

The showroom covers an area of 1,000sqm – or about four tennis courts – and includes an indoor area containing the Vietyacht office and a display for yacht models from the six brands it represents, which include Jeanneau and Prestige from the Beneteau Group, and catamaran builder Fountaine Pajot.

For the launch, its large outdoor area featured several newly imported Jeanneau motor yachts including a Velasco 43F, Leader 40, Cap Camarat 7.5, Merry Fisher 1095 and a Merry Fisher 1095 Fly Legend, a model that debuted at last September’s Cannes Yachting Festival.

Entertainment at the launch included a band on stage and a violinist performing on the foredeck of the Velasco 43F, while guests had the chance to go on board the yachts. Vietyacht also displays yachts in Tuan Chau Marina, allowing customers to experience the boats on the water.

Two days before the showroom launch, Vietyacht staged a ceremony for a new Prestige 520 as well as a Merry Fisher 795 and Cap Camarat 6.5 Walk Around.

The dealership said it expected the arrival of three more yachts by early 2020 that would also be brought to the showroom. As well as its headquarters in Ha Long City, Vietyacht also has sales offices along the coast and a charter division, VietyachtClub.

Meanwhile, Paul Blanc has been appointed General Manager of the Jeanneau brand. In his new role, Blanc will report to Gianguido Girotti, the Group’s Deputy CEO in charge of Product and Brand Strategy.

Blanc is currently Asia Pacific Sales Director for the Jeanneau and Prestige brands, as well as Managing Director of the Groupe Beneteau Asia Pacific office in Hong Kong, and will leave the city in March before taking up his new role in April. Hong Kong-based Mathilde Delfour will take over as Asia Pacific Sales Director for Jeanneau and Prestige.

After graduating from French business school ESSCA, Blanc moved to China in 2001 to study Mandarin. After a career start in Beijing in the automotive sector, he decided to combine his passion for boating with his job and joined the Jeanneau and Prestige teams in 2010 as Sales Director for Asia Pacific.

Initially based in Shanghai, he established the Jeanneau Prestige regional office in Hong Kong in 2011, then in 2018 was appointed Managing Director of the new Groupe Beneteau Asia Pacific office in Hong Kong, which covers all the Group’s brands.
