The United Nations Environment Programme launched Clean Seas in February 2017 with the aim of engaging governments, the public and the private sector in the fight against marine plastic pollution. Over five years, this campaign aims to address the root-cause of marine litter by targeting the production and consumption of single-use plastic.

In 2016, RHKYC became one of the first yacht clubs to ban single-use plastic bottles, bags and straws. Following the new partnership, the club and RHKYC Team Agiplast will promote Clean Seas and its values, create education plans to highlight the problems of plastic pollution, and inspire through example.

Agiplast, sponsor of the club’s Youth America’s Cup entry, has been regenerating plastics for over 25 years and its main focus is to supply processing companies globally with sustainable plastic raw materials, so eliminating the need for virgin plastic materials.

Youth America’s Cup: RHKYC Team Agiplast Selects First Five Sailors

Max Dubreuil, Partner, Agiplast, said: “For Agiplast, the Youth America’s Cup challenge is already a very exciting journey. To create a deeper meaning to our involvement as a plastic regeneration compounder, we initiated this partnership with Clean Seas. This pledge is a commitment for all parties involved to act better, plan better and do more when it comes to plastic waste reduction.

“This pledge is a way for us to further educate when it comes to plastic waste. Our mission is to reduce ocean waste, and make sure scrap materials are collected and channelled back into new materials with the same grade as a virgin material.”

Youth America’s Cup: Chris Rashley To Coach RHKYC Team Agiplast

Calum Gregor, Nicolai Jacobsen, Maria Cantero, Jackie Truhol and Aymeric Gillard are RHKYC Team Agiplast’s first five sailors. Sailors in the Youth America’s Cup 2020/21 must be over 18 by November 1, 2020, and under 25 by March 12, 2021. Chris Rashley, an experienced international foiling coach from the UK, is the team’s head coach.

The Youth America’s Cup will begin with a fleet-racing seeding event in China in November, followed by a match racing event in Auckland from February 18-23 with the finals held from March 8-12 outside the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron.

Incorporating simplistic elements such as timeless wood, concrete, and stone, Standard studio have crafted this 11,000 square foot home based on three distinct parallel gabled volumes, each designated to house a series of separated living spaces, including 6-bedrooms and 9-bathrooms, towering walls of glass and thirty-foot-high ceilings, a zero-edge infinity pool, gym, and home theater – all of which, have been positioned at the foreground of awe-inspiring downtown city and oceanic views.

Emanating a minimalistic yet welcoming aura, the dwelling expresses influence from the traditional geometry of the barn that has long defined American vernacular design. The studio in collaboration with interior designers, Minotti Los Angeles and MASS Beverly, sought to accomplish an elevated architectural design with simple forms and materials, thus explaining their restrained palette in recreating the quintessential Southern California lifestyle.

Azimut Pioneers NASA-Patented Pure Air System on Magellano Flagship

Scheduled to make its show debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival, Azimut’s new Magellano 25 Metri is the Italian builder’s first yacht to feature a NASA-patented system to renew and sanitise air.

At 83ft in length, the 25 Metri is the flagship of Azimut's Magellano range

“Azimut Yachts has decided to introduce this technology in response to a growing need that reflects a new increasingly healthy and natural lifestyle,” the yard stated. “The quality of the air we breathe has an objective and material impact on the quality of our lives.”

Using technology originally developed for use on aerospace missions to sanitise the air on board, MMVS (Marine Mechanical Ventilation System) is a centralised system split across the two decks, ensuring a complete change of air every hour.

MMVS is produced by Italian company BCool Engineering, which specialises in the production and marketing of onboard thermal comfort and power products. Azimut is the first shipyard to fit MMVS on board new yachts and will fit it on all of its upcoming models.

The system enables air inside the boat to remain at the selected temperature and be regularly purified by sanitisation of the air-conditioning ducts, surfaces and technical components like the fan coils.

Milan-based Vincenzo De Cotiis designed the interior

The Magellano 25 Metri is the new flagship of a range that includes 43, 53 and 66 models. With an exterior by Ken Freivokh and interior by De Cotiis Architects, the 82ft 9in motor yacht has a beam of 20ft 10in (6.35m) and four lower-deck guest cabins, plus two cabins for three crew.

Innovations include a cockpit with opposing sofas where guest can enjoy an infinity view aft when a retractable panel – which doubles as the garage door – drops down to create a swim platform.

The yacht features carbon-fibre lamination on the flybridge, hardtop and garage, while at anchor, an innovative ‘hotel mode’ means all on board systems are sustained by lithium ion battery packs in lieu of generators.

Other features include a semi-displacement dual-mode hull with double chine. The upper chine provides a larger beam at low speed for stability, while at higher speed, the flow separates from a lower chine shaped for least resistance. The yacht is fitted with twin MAN V12s, each either 1,400mhp or 1,550mhp, and has a predicted top speed of 24-25 knots.

Marine Italia represents Azimut in Hong Kong, Guangdong, Macau, Taiwan and Singapore.
